About Me
Jerren Lim (he/his/him) was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 1996. He grew up there until he graduated from high school. As a kid, he has always been seen as a troublesome kid. He got suspended multiple times from his school. Most of his teachers antagonized him and labelled him as a troublemaker instead of acknowledging that he needed help in that mental health awareness in Indonesia, especially his school, was extremely poor. However, academically, he had always been within the top 5 in his class. He also tutored some high school students in biology when he was in middle school. Realizing that the US has better mental health awareness and educational system, he moved to California in 2015 for college. His goal is to get an M.D., Ph.D. degree. He initially had only one major and two minors.

However,
in 2018 and 2019, his mental health deteriorated. He was psychiatrically hospitalized a few times under 5150 and 5250 code. He decided to seek help in 2018. Afterwards, his mental health improved dramatically. In 2019, he decided to add one more major, viz., psychology, and to finish it in one year. He was committed to helping people with mental health struggles. He made it! He graduated in 2020 with double majors and double minors.

Moreover, in recognition of his distinguished academic endeavor, his name was placed on the Dean’s Honors List in Winter Quarter 2020.
The main reason of him pursuing double majors and double minors was because he realized that mental health is no different than physical health, and he wants to explain psychology from biological perspective. However, he also realized that many people still perceive mental health and physical health as dichotomous – if someone has a mental health issue, it must solely stem from past trauma, and there is no biological contribution. To him, this is inaccurate – if diabetes and heart disease have underlying biological mechanisms, then mental illnesses are the same thing. He strongly opposes the stigma towards mental health, such as, “everything is just in your head,” “you’re just being overly sensitive,” and “you don’t need to seek psychiatric/psychological help. Just think positively.”
His main academic interest is to elucidate how the biochemical and molecular pathways in the body affect our neurobiology and physiology, and eventually how our neurobiology and physiology affect our behavior, which may result in mental health issues. His main interests are mood disorders, ADHD, anxiety disorders, and borderline personality disorder (BPD). As for right now, he is preparing himself to apply for medical school in the United States.
Jerren was placed on the Dean’s Honors List in Winter Quarter 2020 at the University of California, Davis, in recognition of his distinguished academic endeavor.
Jerren drew Samuel Cipta, a contestant of Indonesian Idol X, who is also his bro. This was a gift for his first single!
Jerren was the leader and the vocal director of the project. He collaborated with 12 other artists including Dolph Chrestano, Deven Christiandi Putra, Azhardi Athariq, Awdella, Key B, Tamangga, Kelvin Jojo, Ola Elannor, Zahra Amalina, Olivia Pardede, Joan Allan Anderson, Dita Anggraeni Yuwono.
Jerren was the leader and the vocal director of the project. He collaborated with 12 other artists .
Jerren dove in Channel Islands in Los Angeles, California.
Jerren is also an avid scuba diver. He is a certified PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) scuba diver.
He dove in various places in the world. He first got his open water diver certification in Manado, Indonesia. He then pursued his advanced open water diver and peak performance buoyancy certification in Los Angeles. He has also been to Hawaii to scuba dive. He took some classes there and got certified in underwater navigation. In 2019, he went to Cozumel, Mexico, and got certified in drift diver specialty. He also has been to Tulum, Mexico, and explored the cavern system there. He got certified in cavern diver, sidemount diver, and enriched air diver specialties there.
For Jerren, drawing, singing, and scuba diving are his to-go mindfulness activities that tremendously help his mental health. Thus, he calls himself the Indonesian Mental Health Advocate and Singer!
